On March 7, First Friday @ First Presbyterian will feature Orpheus Music Club Young Artists, junior and senior musicians from area high schools. The program is from 12:05 to 12:35 p.m. at the church at South Fourth and Ash Streets, and it is free and open to the public. It will be performed both in person and on facebook.com/FPC.Sterling. You do not have to belong to Facebook to access this performance, and it will be posted and available after the program.
Students participating are pianist Britta Astok playing “Can-Can;” alto Annabelle Basgall with “May You Always Have a Song;” “Etude 17” played by clarinetist Mason Boeff; Corynn Hensman singing “Someone Like You;” tenor Tristan Lee with “Wayfaring Stranger;” “Into the Night” by soprano Jasmine Mitchell; “Go ‘Way from My Window” sung by Addison Pasko, and xylophonist Izaiah Wilkins playing “Allegro from Sonata V.”
The program will conclude with the awarding of Orpheus Music Club’s annual Milligan Award to an outstanding graduating senior musician. The award is given to support and encourage students who plan to continue studying music. It was established in the 1950s in honor of Mrs. Johnnie Milligan, who taught many piano students in Sterling from around 1918 to 1958. Her husband was the pastor of First Presbyterian Church at the time the present building was constructed.
First Friday @ First Presbyterian is an ongoing series of musical performances showcasing the talents of local artists.
