July in Logan County: Your Guide to Sterling’s Biggest Summer Month
Summer hits full stride in July across Logan County. Think free concerts under string lights, a hometown Fourth of July, gleaming classic cars, a fair and rodeo capped by a drone show, and wide-open roads and fairways waiting just outside town. Whether you are planning a quick day trip or a long weekend on the High Plains, here is everything happening in Sterling and Logan County this July, in the order it unfolds.
Friday Nights All Month: July Jamz on the Courthouse Square

There is no better way to start a Logan County weekend than with live music downtown. Every Friday in July, the Live Music on the Courthouse Square summer concert series, better known as July Jamz, fills Historic Downtown Sterling with good vibes from 6 to 9 PM. The shows are free, family friendly, and built for a lawn chair and a cold drink, with food and drink vendors on site and a beer garden hosted at the Elks.
The 2026 lineup:
- July 3: Rusty 44
- July 10: Chicano Heat
- July 17: Project Foreigner, a tribute to Foreigner, plus Fire and Ice, a Pat Benatar tribute
- July 24: Double Yellow Line
Pack a chair, bring the family, and settle in for four straight Fridays of summer nights and great music. Full details are on the Explore Sterling events calendar.
July 4: A Hometown Fourth in Sterling

Spend Independence Day the way small-town Colorado does it best. The Heritage Festival takes over the Overland Trail Museum from 10 AM to 3 PM on July 4, celebrating the history, culture, and community spirit of the region with a day the whole family can enjoy. Get the timing and details on the Heritage Festival event page.
Before or after the festivities, stop by J&L Cafe for its Fourth of July veterans BBQ, a warm local tradition and a great way to honor those who served while you are in town.
July 11: Classic Cars at the Rod Run in the Park

On Saturday, July 11, the Colorado Flatlanders Car Club brings its annual Rod Run in the Park to Pioneer Park in Sterling. Expect rows of polished hot rods and classic cars, a Show and Shine, food, music, and a friendly crowd of enthusiasts. It is a long-running tradition that raises money for student scholarships, so admiring the chrome does some good too. For the latest schedule and registration, follow the Colorado Flatlanders on Facebook.
July 28 to August 2: The Logan County Fair and Rodeo

The crown jewel of the Logan County summer arrives late in the month. The Logan County Fair and Rodeo runs July 28 through August 2 at the Logan County Fairgrounds, packing six days with 4-H exhibits, carnival rides, live entertainment, and rodeo action. Highlights this year include a drive-in movie at the fairgrounds on July 25 and extreme bull riding on July 28, with the carnival running nightly from July 28 through August 2.
The can’t-miss moment comes on July 31, when a Colorado 150 Stories in the Sky drone show lights up the night sky over the fairgrounds as part of the statewide celebration of Colorado’s 150th anniversary. It is a spectacular, modern twist on a classic county fair.
And don’t miss Scotty McCreery on August 1 with special Guest Dugger Band!

August 1: Ride the Gravel During Fair Weekend

If your idea of a summer weekend includes two wheels and wide-open country, time your trip for the Gravel Adventure Field Guide ride on Saturday, August 1, held right in the middle of fair weekend. Riders meet at 9 AM at Heritage Park, near 4th and Main, for a 9:30 AM start on the Beatnik Dirt route, with both 40-mile and 20-mile options to match your distance.
It is a perfect introduction to a region that may surprise you: Logan County is home to more than 1,600 miles of gravel roads, with long sight lines, minimal traffic, and High Plains scenery that stretches for miles. Roll in, ride, then clean up and enjoy the carnival, the rodeo, or Saturday night’s concert. Route details are on the Gravel Adventure Field Guide events page.
All Summer Long: Tee It Up on the High Plains

Looking for a reason to make a weekend of it? Logan County is an affordable, uncrowded golf destination with three distinct courses and none of the Front Range traffic or resort prices. Sky Ranch Golf Course in Sterling, established in 1916, is one of the oldest courses in Colorado, with mature trees, water hazards, and classic character. Riverview Golf Course offers a scenic, walkable layout along the South Platte River with excellent practice facilities. And the 9-hole F&H Golf Course in nearby Fleming, complete with an indoor golf simulator, delivers an authentic rural Eastern Plains experience.
Pair a round with a gravel ride, throw in some downtown antiquing and a pint at Parts and Labor Brewing, the first brewery on Colorado’s Eastern Plains, and you have the makings of a getaway. Browse all three courses on the Explore Sterling golf page.
