Hunting

Wide-Open Spaces. Big Skies. Great Hunting.

Experience hunting on Colorado’s Eastern Plains, where wide-open grasslands, productive agricultural fields, and the South Platte River corridor create a diverse landscape for wildlife and outdoor adventure.

From pheasant hunting in golden fields to waterfowl hunting along the river and big-game opportunities across the prairie, Logan County offers a distinctive hunting experience away from Colorado’s crowded mountain destinations.

With convenient access from Interstate 76, a variety of public hunting opportunities, and welcoming small-town hospitality, Sterling and Logan County make an ideal base camp for your next hunting adventure.

Upland Bird & Small-Game Hunting

Logan County’s mix of agricultural land, native grasslands, and river-bottom habitat offers opportunities to pursue pheasants, quail, doves, rabbits, and other small game.

Pheasant hunting is a favorite Eastern Plains tradition, with hunters exploring grasslands, field edges, and agricultural cover. Colorado’s Walk-In Access Program provides opportunities to hunt enrolled private lands without obtaining individual landowner permission.

Waterfowl Hunting

The South Platte River, North Sterling Reservoir, and surrounding wetlands and agricultural fields attract ducks and geese during seasonal migrations.

Hunters can pursue waterfowl in designated public hunting areas and on private property with permission. North Sterling State Park offers waterfowl hunting in designated portions of the park during established seasons, subject to specific access and equipment restrictions.

Big Game Hunting

Colorado’s Eastern Plains offer a different kind of big-game adventure, with opportunities to pursue mule deer, white-tailed deer, and pronghorn.

From river bottoms and agricultural fields to expansive prairie landscapes, Logan County provides varied hunting terrain. Hunters should consult Colorado Parks and Wildlife for game management unit boundaries, license requirements, and available seasons.
