1. North Sterling State Park

North Sterling is a boater’s and fisherman’s paradise offering a 3,000-acre lake with a fascinating array of flats and coves to explore. An additional 2,800 acres of land support a wide variety of recreational activities, including bird-watching, wildlife viewing, hiking and more. 2.  Prewitt State Wildlife Area

Prewitt is leased by Colorado Parks and Wildlife from the Morgan-Prewitt Irrigation Company with 3,047 acres which are managed primarily for fishing and hunting. Check it out here.

3.  Jumbo State Wildlife Area

Jumbo Reservoir is a 1,578-acre body of water located on the Jumbo State Wildlife Area. Anglers can expect excellent fishing for walleye and crappie, and quality fishing for channel catfish and bluegill. Find more details here.

1. Birds, Blossoms and Butterflies

Celebrate spring at the Sterling Creatives’ First Friday Open House on May 3, from 11:30 am–6 pm. There will be plenty of spring-themed artwork available in the gallery and you will be able to meet with May’s featured artist of the month, Denise Sunderman, the brilliant mind behind Fruit Jar Studio and maker of many items that can be found in the gallery, like jewelry, birdfeeders, and hand-dyed silk scarves. 2.  Jazz it Up

Take a quick break down the street in Historical Downtown Sterling for First Friday @ First Presbyterian featuring the Sterling High School Jazz Band on May 3, from 12:05-12:35 pm.  This monthly musical treat takes place in the 1918 First Presbyterian Church with its unaltered exterior and original stained glass windows. 3.  Free for Kids!

You will want to enjoy Family Fun Saturday at the Overland Trail Museum, May 4, from 9 am-5 pm. Kids are admitted free of charge all day! Come and experience “A Child’s Life on the Prairie” and learn about farm chores, gathering eggs and washing clothes in a wash tub. Join the celebration of art in the community at the Logan County Courthouse Square in downtown Sterling on Saturday, April 27, from 11 am – 5 pm. There will be a sidewalk chalk competition for Logan County high schools, a Plein Air competition, art demonstrations, vendor booths, children’s art instruction, music and more!

2.  Pop Up Shop

Are you shopping for Mother’s Day? Graduation? A wedding? Or just for yourself? Check out the Spring Holiday Marketplace while you’re downtown Saturday. Featured vendors include Pampered Chef, Color Street, SBT, Thirty-One, Tupperware, Pearls of Atlantis, Discovery Toys, Wyogem, Young Living, handmade jewelry, pottery, quilts and crafts.

1.  Sneak Peak

Join the Sportsman Experience pre-event Friday, April 12, 6-11 pm, at the Logan County Fairgrounds Indoor Arena. The Sneak Peak is hosted by Northeastern Junior College Foundation and features an auction, food, spirits and dancing with live music by the Juke Joint Cruisers! Proceeds benefit NJC students. Tickets are available online at Eventbrite.com by searching “Sportsman Experience” in Sterling, Colorado, or at the door.

2.  Down and Dirty

Northeastern Diesel Power Club presents the 4th annual Mudd’Evil Dayz on Saturday, April 13, from 1-4 pm, at the Logan County Fairgrounds. Classes include: street stock, stock, super stock, pro stock, mod and open. Let’s go!

3.  Sportsman Experience

This annual outdoor sport and recreation event focuses on learning and interactive experiences for attendees. Sponsored by Media Logic Radio and the Colorado Militaria Collectors & Gun Show, this expo is the place you’re going to want to be this weekend! It's all at the Logan County Fairgrounds.

Over 50 handmade quilts in one place? Yes, please! The 16th annual Quilt Show is going on through the month of March at the Sterling Public Library. This year’s show features 52 beautiful quilted pieces on display. You can even vote for your favorite for the coveted “People’s Choice Award!”

2.  It’s All About the Fashion

Check out the Masquerade Fashion Show presented by NJC Cosmetology on Saturday, March 9, 1-4 pm, in the Hays Student Center Ballroom at Northeastern Junior College. Tickets include a delectable dessert bar, runway fashions with stunning hairstyles and makeup, and fabulous shopping opportunities at the vendor booths.

1.  Free Family Fun

Who doesn’t love making a blanket fort?! Go to the Sterling Public Library on Friday, Feb. 22, 5:30 pm, for a Family Fort Fun program for the whole family. Bring your own blankets to build your fort and enjoy some story telling. A light meal will be served so go ahead and RSVP at 970-522-2023.

2.  This Spot is Hot!

One Hot Spot wasn’t enough, they had to open a second location! This smokehouse, located at 402 Main St., in downtown Sterling, is tucked in the former Bill’s Motors building which was an automobile dealership and garage from the early 1900s and is now home to some of the best barbecue around.
