Plainsman Pete (Wood)

Overview

This carving serves as a “mascot” for the two-year community college. Commissioned by the NJC’s 45th year as an outstanding education institution. It was originally located outside on campus but was moved inside in the 1990s to assure that it did not become weather damaged. Vigil keen and senses sure, Plainsman Pete, this friendly sentry, Artful guard of academe, Stands his timeless watch, A warranty that minds are free, And mem’ries fond from NJC. -Bud Christian (Christian, now retired, taught humanities classes at NJC for many years.)
